At least I won’t set off the metal detector at the prison anymore…

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

I’m just kidding, I don’t go to the prison, nor have I ever been through a metal detector, believe it or not. I did, however, get my staples out on Wednesday. It pinched a little bit, but that was it and now I’m metal-less. Matt got me re-bandaged with the giant corset that I was given to hold my guts in last night (since he leaves before 5 am I just shower at night so he can do the bandage) a little tighter and it seemed to help a lot. I did laundry, made dinner and picked up stuff off of the floor without using my toes. It was still tough to get down, but I managed it and the place was semi-clean when he got home.

He’s gotten home late as of late because he’s been working overtime, that and trying to catch up for being late with my doctor’s appointments (don’t even get me started). It means some pretty long days for me and some really short nights for him to have time with Keeley, which is kind of sad, but by then she’s not in the mood to do much other than fuss or slap the glasses off of his face after the first half hour or so. She wants to eat, bath, nurse and bed, or eat, nurse, play and bed depending on if she had a bath the night before. She has, though, progressed to falling down on her butt from a standing position instead of falling all the way down and thumping her head. This happened, oh today I think, which is good. Her butt is very padded, see. Also that is the next step for walking. As such, I scheduled her 12 month check up and immunizations. I will probably skip the H1N1 (oink oink) shot for her. It hasn’t been tested very much and even though she’s young, she’s not in day care and very rarely makes contact with other kids or people who may not cover their mouth/wash hands, etc. The worst thing would be the grocery cart, which I can wipe off before putting her in. After her birthday, though, we can put her in her new car seat, which will be nice. She’s definitely almost there in height AND weight of outgrowing the old seat, but the new seat mandates her to be 1 year exactly before putting her in it for safety’s sake, even though she meets every other requirement (it can’t be rear-facing, which we didn’t realize when we bought it). It did have VERY high reviews from the Consumer Reports people, though, so we’re happy about that. Lots of changes going on around here.

Fun Monday: It’s in the bag, baby!

So Chris is the hostess for Fun Monday. She wants to know: So ‘what type of shopping bag do you favour’-plastic or material? How many do you use.  You could even show us what’s in your  bag!

Ah, a green post, so green text: Well, let’s see, I really prefer to use my dull (not shiny) new shopping bag from Aldi. It was $2, and this weekend we used it to recycle paper (yet another use), but I have taken it several times to the local megamart. They cashiers are happy enough to use them, I find that the older cashiers understand better than the young ones, though. If we forget the reusable bag, a lot of times they’ll put one item in a bag and then forget that they did it, so I’ll grab it back out and put it with the others, ensuring that #1 we come home with everything and #2 that we save the plastic. We do recycle the plastic bags that we get, or reuse them for baby wipes, bathroom trash, etc. The hometown grocery that I go to in order to stock up on their sale items (gallon buckets of Prairie Farms chocolate ice cream for $3.99) each week, sometimes gives out paper bags, so I have a couple of those saved back and tuck them in the fabric bag in case of ‘too much bought-itis’.  I even took a picture of the big bag full. HPIM0865This was from 2 months ago, some event, perhaps 4th of July, and I had also gone to the library and stashed books I had gotten that day in there too. It’s really a great all-purpose bag, and holds a LOT. It doesn’t sit on megamart bag holders very well, but if the cashier is careful, it will sit. I find it easier to place cart items that would be heavier or make the bag retain it’s shape up on the counter first, and that makes it easier for the cashier to steady the bag. It truly, really is easier than using all those plastic bags, too, because you can put this over your shoulder (sans winter coat), baby in other arm, soda in bag hand and voila, all ready to go, something that would have taken 3 trips and left a baby whining in a playpen makes for marvelously easy trips inside.  There you have it, I have one, big fabric bag, and I try and remember to take it with me whenever I go shopping. Note, I have taken it for family things too, when I take stuff somewhere, and it is very useful, plus can be refilled with empty containers or simply folded up and put back in the car when not in use. Handy thing, really.

Baby, baby

Keeley loves any song with baby in it. Baby, baby is fine. You can sing baby baby over and over again and she loves it. Today I opened her door and sang ’stand by your maaaaan’…. that was a kick. I think she was mostly glad to see me, because she was hungry, but still, hilarious! I think her sense of humor is finally starting to kick in. I put her (clean) diaper on my head and that made her laugh. I played the ’sailor went to sea sea sea’ game with her and that was a great giggle. Patty cake even almost got a snort, and she hasn’t liked patty cake for a few months. Go figure. Anyway, I guess that’s her prerogative. Here’s the 2 of us getting a good laugh at daddy.

Setup: talking a walk pushing baby in stroller: observation….

Drive through on package liquor store, including 2 ‘ding’ bars so you know when someone is coming and stops at the window.

Setup: talking a walk pushing baby in stroller:

2 ladies sitting outside sherriff’s office. I wonder why they are smoking sitting on the ground instead of walking around or doing something else instead, and then one of them says to the other ‘my boyfriends’ been locked up since the drug raid-you know they got 5…’ — observation…. they were VISITING!

Setup: me laying in bed trying desperately to fall back asleep as baby is finally napping. Baby’s crib on wall next to stairs.

Apartment kid above us coming down the stairs (bangs door quietly). Apartment mom above us coming down stairs “what the bleep is wrong with you are you retarded or something, you’re going to wake the baby”– (screeches at the top of her lungs and bangs door loudly).  Apartment kid ‘I wasn’t trying to be loud, mom’ …. Observation…. she’s pregnant again. Wonder how the other 2 kids will take to yelling about THEIR baby not just ours? Observation….She was louder than he was.
