Can I have a cookie?

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Seems like that’s all I say anymore. Why the fascination with cookies? Who knows? I know I’m tired. I’m tired of having to shower at night and only do laundry when my husband is home.

I’m tired of having to stick my baby in a playpen for half the day to keep her out of trouble. I’m tired of not being able to leave the house. I’m okay with not doing most of the other chores, though. My husband can have the dishes and the vacuuming.

Otherwise, I’m glad to be moving a lot better. Knowing my husband was on the way, I put KJ down on the floor and let her roam for a while this afternoon. I had to turn the tv off because she was whacking it with a toy and standing way too close for her poor little eyes, but other than that, she did really well. Not getting into too much of anything and making me ‘fail’ progress on this operation. Which is really nice.

In other terms, is anyone giving their kids a swine flu vaccine that hasn’t been tested very long? Just wondering. Keeley rarely sees anyone outside of the 2 of us, and we can take precautions for grocery carts and etc. when that comes into effect.

Also, no I don’t think that anyone should be able to pull the plug on the internet. We put off the switch to digital because it might ‘paralyze’ the country if no one had tv for information. What do they think wiping out internet is going to do in the case of an emergency? When a storm hits, we dont’ turn on the tv, we get in the closet with the laptop. Nuff said.

Halloween and misc.

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

So, do we dress Keeley up for Halloween? Also, is it annoying when your brother plans his huge blow out party that the family all goes to on your baby’s first birthday instead of any other Saturday in October? Just wondering. I think I’m more amused than anything else. We don’t know if we will be able to host a party here or  not, depends on if we will be packing up and moving. Maybe we should just have the party where the other party is and be done with it. That way, we’re the only ones that have to travel (like usual) and no one complains.

Overheard in our house

Oooh, ouch, honey go make faces at her in the mirror to make sure her mouth is okay..

Jeez.

Things you shouldn’t say out loud to your baby

Yes, honey, that’s moo juice, kind of like mommy’s milk, but whiter and less good for you. Kind of like Michael Jackson, but you’ll understand that when you’re older.

11 months old

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

HPIM0974We’re practicing for potty training already. Ha! This is a 10 month picture, but as I wanted to post and our 11 month pictures won’t be taken until this PM, this is the one you get! After several weeks of struggling with keeping Keeley on the changing table, I moved her over to the guest bed for diaper changes. Almost immediately the issues went away. Once we supplied a book, toy, or asked her to help by pulling out a wipe (yucky, don’t eat it!), it helped a lot. We had tried giving her toys on the changing table, but I guess she was trying to say she’d outgrown it! Occasionally she still turns around on me, but for the most part, at least she’s on something soft, and here we go with a fine example of what the beginning of a diaper change might look like. Although by the end, she’s usually dropped the book, after having chewed on it. The changing table now holds diapers, toys, and we may move books over soon as well. At least a few of them. For the next couple of weeks I won’t be doing much bending, so she’ll have some limitations on toy and book usage while it’s just the 2 of us at home, otherwise it will be a hazard.

11 months, though, kind of hard to believe. However, she’s crawling, pulling up, standing and letting go for a couple of seconds, able to get back down to what she pulled up to (new this week!) and also babbling a lot more (new this week!).  She’s showing a lot more interest in books (one  hand me down needs a cover  glued already, although since they’ve been through a minimum of 4 kids, I’m not surprised), and notices things like the air conditioner kicking off, and squeals at the blue light over on the wall (temperature panel). She’s observing more, eating more, and all in all, just growing up. Matt seems to not be taking it as well as me, I guess with the surgery I kind of have to take it all in stride. I can’t be worried about things like that! I have to enjoy every minute and little new thing she does! I fully have, too, then again I’m home all day. I keep most of the ‘new’ stuff to myself and let her daddy see them unaided on his own. He’s pointed out stuff to me a few times as well that I didn’t notice (like getting down from pulling up), so it’s pretty interesting.

Well enough rambling, let you get back to juicier things!

It’s getting better all the time…

Okay, checked out the incision. About 2-3 inches on either side of the belly button. Yup, straight across. Should make for an interesting scar. Or Keeley’s topic about something about her mom ’she has no belly button’. Rolling eyes here. Anyway, apparently no seepage, drainage or blood, dressings have been checked and appear just whistle-while-you-work clean. Good, right?

The first night I realized I wasn’t needing the codeine/tylenol during the night, but took it upon getting into bed after nighttime run. Gave up after 36 hours. Has been almost as many hours (right about now) of being off of it and my digestion is starting to clear up. It hurts. Nuff said. Regular tylenol taken a couple of odd times seems to do okay for it. Besides, the other stuff goes through the milk, dammit, of course we realized it too late, but seemed to provide no side effects, despite a calm call to the pharmacy Sunday morning.

Keeley is avoiding me for the most part, except for nursing time. She loves her nursing time. Unfortunately in the under 24 hours she wasn’t nursing, she learned how to ‘chew’ on her cup with milk in it. Guess who has sore bewbs? If you are guessing me, you’d be right. At least she’s still getting her milk, I guess. Just wish she didn’t think she needed to chew in order to get it.

We had help Friday, Saturday, and Today. Matt and I roughed it yesterday and it was a fairly calm day. He’s taking tomorrow and most of  Wednesday off to make sure I’m good after the doctor’s visit to get back to business as usual. I still can’t lift baby girl up from the floor, but maybe in a couple of days. I took a short walk today and I am getting around a lot better, in and out of bed, etc.

As long as I remind myself not to use my abs, I do just fine. Unfortunately, not sure how to remind Keeley not to KICK me in the stomach area. So far, so  good, but I haven’t been holding her much either.

So, in short, I’m getting better. I hope in a couple of days to get doctor’s clearance to work out Keeley’s care for myself. It will be annoying, but we’ll manage. Especially if I can get her to nap (special annoying glance at the ceiling, for waking her up 45 minutes into her nap this afternoon, dammit)..

On a more positive note, I got cards from a family member, a friend (thanks Stacy!) and a ‘cookie bouquet’ from another friend. Haven’t gotten in that yet. Also special thanks to the grandmas and husband for helping out, my mom and friend ‘G’ for bringing food. Mmmm.

Button, button, whose got the button?

My doctor stole my belly button! Anyone else have that happen? So far everything is going okay here. Got the epidural fine, but someone gave me demoral, so I can’t nurse her until 6pm. Other than having to pump and dump and some slight intense gross pain, I’m okay.

Updates…

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

There are some updates, but not many.

  1. The girls loved their ribbons. As predicted, they were alternately anxious to know their names were spelled right, and cooing ‘really, for everyone?’ in disbelief. It was like an echo chamber. It felt really, really good. Did my heart good, as they say. Yeah!
  2. Tomorrow is surgery. Boo. But!! And it’s a big but! He he. I MAY be able to have an epidural instead of ‘going under’, in which case no extra milk needed. Yeah! However, if the anesthetist ‘misses’, I will still have to go under. Boo. Hiss.
  3. Mom is bringing food for us. Yeah!
  4. I still haven’t mopped the floors, and I have a touch of laundry to do, but I feel I’ve done everything else I can to make this place seem like it’s not just a trash heap all the time. Woohoo!
  5. The toilet has started running every time you flush. Double yuck.
  6. I have a big pot of chili on the stove and Matt isn’t home yet. So boo, and yeah all together. I want him home, but at least dinner is done so we can chat before tomorrow.
  7. All things considered things are looking up.
  8. Except about the housing thing. Don’t even get me started. That earns a ‘barf’.
  9. See you all on the ‘flip’ side of surgery! Blog a lot so I have fun things to read!
